by Susanne Maziarz, Music Director at Neighbourhood
Music transforms us.
It can wake the sleeping, change our awareness, let us exist in more than one place at a time, heal the sick, bring us into movement and lift our spirits.
To create music, our physical bodies create vibrations — we make music out of thin air! It’s a transformation of matter.
We become an instrument when we sing. Our vocal cords vibrate and our skull is the resonator, our mouth, the sound-hole. Music can also take us totally out of our bodies, and take away the weight of existence.
When we make music with others we literally vibrate on the same wave–length. We are transformed from a singularity into a felt unity.
Music can transform our state of being. Listening to music that has meaning, or aesthetic beauty for us will change our own inner vibrations and mood. It can lift us out of our meat and bones and show us another world.
Because music so strongly affects all our understandings — physical, spiritual, emotional, logical, sensual — when we let it in, it can change us.
I invite you to allow our music at Neighbourhood to transform you, to change your awareness of yourself and your place in our community.
