What would our world be like if we asked what we could give to the world rather than seeking just what it can give us? What would our country be like if every giving holiday were about giving something of our character? If you could give anything to a community, what would it be?
Our road this year together has never been about simply taking for our own journey along the way. The hope has been that as you’ve navigated through the Human Journey, you found fruitful giving there too.
Over this past year, I have journeyed with the youth and children of this congregation. I have felt their love and their presence, seen their potential and their challenges. I have seen it all and they are welcome here. It is my hope over the next year to see the adults begin to practice the truth behind the old African saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
I would like to end this year with a question and a challenge for all of us: What gifts can you offer to our children and youth? Where could you belong within their lives?
Please consider sharing your talents and gifts with us next year in a new way. We want to foster learning about earth-stewardship, democracy, compassion, justice and solidarity, and we want to teach it through art, drama, discussion, field trips, carpentry, gardening and so many other ways.
Come join us all together on this human journey!
