Our Music: The Gift

by Susanne Maziarz, Music Director at Neighbourhood
I’m inspired by people who are able to elevate a community simply by doing work that is caring and thorough. As I write this, a piano technician named Jamie Musslewhite is painstakingly restoring an 85-year-old Toronto-made grand piano for our congregation. He is taking it apart to replace, repair, and clean all of the pieces before putting it back together again.
Watching Jamie’s work* and the care and deliberation he takes has made me reflect on what it means to care for the smallest of details in a culture that encourages throwing away yesterday’s technology, ideas and relationships. What if we were to give the same care and attention to our opinions, spiritual lives and community?
The piano was a gift to us from Beach United, and the Spirit Choir will be going there to sing for their Sunday service on April 12th to express our thanks. We will be holding a piano celebration concert for our extended community the evening before (Saturday, April 11th). If you are interested in participating, Please contact me at music@nuuc.ca.
